چکیده

Semiconducting single-wall carbon nanotubes have an absorption band centered about approximately 0.7 eV. This arises from the transition between the first valence band Van Hove singularity and the first conduction band singularity in the density of states. These singularities lie close enough to the Fermi-level that it is possible to shift the Fermi-level sufficiently to exclude this electronic transition. In this experiment an attempt has been made to demonstrate the optical switching of this absorption band by applying a gating potential. The experiment is in progress and results are pending.

Nanotube Light-controlled Electronic Switch

The use of carbon nanotubes for field effect nanoelectronic devices, which has been recently demonstrated, motivates further studies of electrochemical and chemical analogues of nanotube molecular transistors. However, chemical gating is not applicable for modern electronics due to its slow response. Herein we propose a novel molecular electronic device: Nanotube LightControlled Switch (NLCS). ...

Increasing the hydrogen storage capacity of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) through facile impregnation by TiO2, ZrO2 and ZnO nanocatalysts

Various nanocomposites of TiO2, ZnO and ZrO2 decorated single wall Carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) were fabricated by facile and template free continuous ultrasonication/stirring of virgin metal oxide nanopowders and SWNTs in ethanol under UV-light illumination. The TEM micrographs showed that nanoparticles (NPs) were uniformly dispersed and bonded on the surface of SWNTs. The results of XRD as well a...

Direct measurement of the polarized optical absorption cross section of single-wall carbon nanotubes.

We determine optical absorption cross sections of single-wall carbon nanotubes for visible light copolarized and cross polarized with respect to the nanotube axis. The need for perfectly aligned ensembles in absorbance measurements is eliminated by using Raman scattering to measure the nematic order parameter in magnetically aligned nanotube suspensions. The absorbance data allow the first quan...

Transport of a Liquid Water-Methanol Mixture in a Single Wall Carbon Nanotube

In this work, a molecular dynamics simulation of the transport of water - methanol mixture through the single wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) is reported. Methanol and water are selected as fluid molecules since water represents a strongly polar molecule while methanol is as an intermediate between polar and strongly polar molecules. Some physical properties of the methanol-water mixture such as r...

Multiphoton absorption mechanism of TMTTF, its radical cation and soluble single wall carbon nanotubes

Non linear absorption is a non linear optical property which can be observed with large photon intensities and corresponds to instantaneous or sequential absorption of more than one photon. Highly polarisable molecules show high non linear optical activity and in the following it will be presented the multiphoton absorption properties of tetramethyltetratiafulvalene (TMTTF), its radical cation ...
